The book is divided into chapters covering services in England and Wales, Ireland, and Scotland. Each chapter contains descriptions of all routes to have operated, including the vessels used, arranged in a clockwise order around the country. Routes serving the Isle of Wight and the Scottish islands are included where they carry cars, along with river crossings such as the Woolwich Free Ferry across the Thames. At the back there are fleet lists for the Scottish and Isle of Wight car ferry operators.
