An illustrated review of the rich transport history of the east German city of Magdeburg, now the capital of Saxony-Anhalt.

The city was connected to the rail network in 1840 with the opening of the Magdeburg–Köthen–Halle (Saale)–Leipzig line. Magdeburg also developed into one of the most important railway hubs in Germany, as evidenced by the three railway depots located there.

Verkehrsknoten Magdeburg contains a fascinating collection of photographs, and postcards, featuring steam, diesel and electric traction mainly from the DDR era, with a few older images and some from the immediate post-reunification period in the early 1990s. There are chapters on the city’s S-Bahn and tram networks and freight shipping on the river Elbe. A track layout of Magdeburg station is also included.

175 black & white images. German text. Hardback. 112 pages.
