An illustrated review of the rich transport history of the east German city of Magdeburg, now the capital of Saxony-Anhalt.

The city was connected to the rail network in 1840 with the opening of the Magdeburg–Köthen–Halle (Saale)–Leipzig line. Magdeburg also developed into one of the most important railway hubs in Germany, as evidenced by the three railway depots located there.

The book contains a fascinating collection of railway photos featuring steam, diesel and electric traction mostly from the DDR era with a few older images and some from the immediate post-reunification period in the early 1990s. There are chapters on the city’s S-Bahn and tram networks and freight shipping on the river Elbe.

Superbly illustrated with around 170 black & white photographs. German text. Hardback. 112 pages.
