Mansfelder Land, the region covering the eastern foothills of the Harz mountains has been characterised by copper and slate mining for over 700 years, evidence of which can still be seen today.

With the opening of the railway linking Berlin and Metz in 1879, the region received its first railway. Other branch lines quickly opened to connect mines to the main railway network.

The book describes the interesting history of the railways in the Mansfeld region, the construction, development and operation of the individual standard and narrow-gauge railways and highlights the economic and transport importance of this region.

Well-illustrated throughout with over 400 black & white photographs, maps and diagrams. German text. Hardback. 208 pages.
