Zwickau is the fourth largest city in Saxony and was famous during the GDR era for its Trabant car production. The city has been served by rail since 1845.

Local transport is provided by the tram system, with two lines and 37 stops. This is complemented by the Vogtlandbahn trains, which run right into the city centre.

There is footage of steam and heritage diesel locos, regular service trains in the 1990s and 2000s, the Vogtlandbahn, the launch of the ill-fated ICE-TD diesel high-speed train on the Dresden–Nürnberg service, and vintage trams along with their more modern Tatra and low-floor successors including during the city’s tramway centenary celebrations in 1994 and the bicentenary of railways in Europe in 2025.

German commentary. 58 minutes running time.
