Merseyside tramway historian Martin Jenkins has compiled this operational history of the Baby Grands, the last trams to operate on Liverpool’s remaining tramway system between the end of World War II and its final closure in 1957.
This 100-strong fleet of four-wheel vehicles had formed part of an order for new trams placed during the 1930s under the management of Walter G Marks, along with the similar bogie ‘Streamliners’. Liverpool’s pro-tram policy was reversed after the war, however, meaning that the city’s once proud tramway network was gradually dismantled between 1948 and 1957.
This book contains a fascinating collection of black & white photographs, with colour on the front and back cover, depicting the Baby Grands on all of the routes that they operated, including views of the cars on depot and on the last day of operation. The photos are mostly arranged one per page with detailed captions.
Well-illustrated throughout with approximately 60 black & white photographs. 64 pages.
