This book is a comprenehsive history of the Wilts, Somerset & Weymouth Railway between Bath and Weymouth via Westbury, Castle Cary and Maiden Newton.
It covers the construction and opening of the line firstly to Westbury and then on to Weymouth. There is then a detailed description of the route, followed by chapters on motive power, loco sheds, passenger train services, coaching stock, signalling, and accidents.
At the back there are lists of loco allocations at each shed along the route in 1921 and 1947. The main focus is on steam traction but the period since the end of steam is also covered up to the present day.
