This book provides a comprehensive history of the Selkirk & Galashiels Railway, a 5-mile branch line in the Scottish Borders.
The book describes the political background to the project and the line’s construction and operation, firstly as an independent railway undertaking and then under the ownership of the North British Railway, LNER and finally British Rail through to its closure to regular passenger trains in 1951 and goods in 1964.
Towards the end there are chapters listing all staff known to have worked at each of the line’s stations, and some of the locos used on the line in NBR days. 172 black & white illustrations. 216 pages.
