Part of a series of colour albums from the late Richard Riley’s archive of photographs of steam trains taken during the 1950s and 1960s, this volume covers the BR Standard Classes.
Photographs are taken from all around Britain and feature the several classes of British Railways Standard locomotives introduced following the nationalisation of the railways in 1948.
A total of twelve classes were introduced, totally 999 locomotives. Unable to afford a full-scale electrification programme in such a short space of time, these locomotives were destined to be a stop-gap before more modern traction could be rolled out. Many of these locomotives remained in service until the end of steam, but even this was a relatively short lifespan when compared with their predecessors.
This book contains a series of colour photographs of BR Standard Classes operating around Britain. Hardback. 128 pages.
