Locomotives in BR service subsequently scrapped in Woodham's yard.
Although over 200 locos were rescued from Woodham’s scrapyard at Barry for preservation, 75 British Railways steam locos, four diesels and a handful of ex-Ministry of Defence steam locos met their end here. Jeffrey Grayer has put together this collection of photos of 68 of the locos that did not survive when they were still in service on BR.
The photos are arranged by year of scrapping starting in 1959 and ending in 1980. The locos are depicted hauling a variety of passenger and freight trains and on shed in locations all over the country from Cornwall to Scotland. At the back there is a full list of locos scrapped at Barry between 1959 and 1980, with the seven MoD locos listed separately.
