John Hillier has compiled this collection of photographs and paintings by railway photographer and artist Eric Oldham. Although he was an accomplished photographer much of his work has never previously been published.
Most of the images date from between the late-1940s and the 1960s, with a few from the 1970s and 1980s also included. They are mostly of steam-hauled trains but there are also several diesels, mostly Deltics, and Woodhead Route electrics.
The book is divided into chapters covering the photographer’s home ground near Hyde, Greater Manchester, holiday haunts in southern England, and locations in eastern and northern England and Scotland. Notable trains depicted include the “Bournemouth Belle”, a Southampton boat train, and several East and West Coast Main Line expresses.
Contains around 200 photographs and paintings, mostly reproduced in black & white. Hardback. 152 pages.
