The Southern Railway, and later the Southern Region of British Railways, extended its area of operation into Devon and Cornwall in competition with the Great Western Railway.
This book by railway historian Robert Hendry contains a fascinating collection of photos from across the former SR lines in Devon and Cornwall mostly dating from the 1950s and 1960s with a few from more recent times also included. Many of these lines were closed during or shortly after the Beeching era. There are several photos at Exeter Central and St Davids stations, and all of the former SR lines are depicted including those serving Ilfracombe, Sidmouth, Bude, Padstow and Wadebridge along with the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway.
Approximately 160 colour and black & white photographs. 96 pages.
