Part of a series of 12 books being published in 2025 to commemorate the Railway 200 anniversary, this is a fascinating collection of railway photos taken in and around Manchester and its surroundings, mostly dating from between the 1930s and the present day.
It was Manchester, the eastern terminus of the Liverpool & Manchester Railway, and the town’s rising industrial interests that were the guiding forces leading to the railway revolution in Britain. The requirement for cheap and reliable transport of raw materials in and finished products out provided the stimulus for the creation of the railway and, more than 150 years later the development of the new tramway system, was still at the front of developments in the country.
This book contains a series of archive black & white, and more recent colour photographs, of railways around Manchester between the 1930s and the present day. Hardback. 80 pages.
