This is one a series of 12 books being published by Transport Treasury in 2025 showcasing railway works and centres to commemorate “Rail 200”, the 200th anniversary of passenger-carrying railways.
The extensive Transport Treasury photographic library provides a look at the rich railway history that Derby has contributed to the British railway scene. A leading manufacturer of steam and diesel locomotives at its Locomotive Works, its extensive former Carriage & Wagon Works at Litchurch Lane continues to produce rolling stock for today’s railway.
This is an album of photographs taken in and outside the various works from early days to the present. It shows various locomotive and coach types that have been built and maintained in Derby. Most of the photographs feature locomotives, with a good spread between the steam era and more modern diesel locomotives from the British Railways era. Photographs are approximately half colour and half black & white. Hardback. 80 pages.
