For over a century, electric trains have been running across Germany using the power system that remains standard today. This development began on the line between Murnau and Oberammergau in southern Bavaria. The locomotives used on this route, later designated as the Class E 69, have written a unique chapter in the history of railway technology. Two of these machines are still in operation today, hauling museum and special charter trains.
