The story of the line from Béziers to Neussargues, which features many impressive engineering structures, including the iconic Garabit Viaduct, as it crosses the difficult terrain of the Massif Central.

The line opened in 1888 by the Compagnie du Midi and was electrified as early as 1931, using power generated by local hydro-electric plants. The line has avoided closure so far, unlike much of the Massif Central's railway network.

This book, written by seven authors with an in depth knowledge and passion for the line, charts the history of the line from its construction through to the present day. Also looks at associated lines that have now closed and assesses the prospects for a renaissance of the line, using case studies from other similar lines around Europe. French text.
