Andreas Knipping has produced this expanded and updated edition of an earlier book by Michael Koenner, which was published in 1985. ELNA-Lokomotiven is a survey of the steam locos built for Germany’s once numerous private and municipally owned railways (Kleinbahnen).

The comprehensive standardisation programme for the loco fleet of the Deutsche Reichsbahn (German State Railway) from the 1920s contrasts sharply with the lesser known standardisation programme for loco operation on the independent railways codenamed “ELNA” for “Engeren Lokomotiv-Normen-Ausschuss” (Smaller Locomotive Standards Committee). A number of ELNA locos were absorbed into the post-war Deutsche Reichsbahn (East German State Railway) fleet from the 1950s onwards.

There are detailed descriptions of the loco designs and fleets used on each railway, including a full fleet list and surviving examples at museums and heritage railways across Germany and in other countries.

Around 180 colour and black & white photos. German text. Hardback. 240 pages.
