The Mid-Norfolk Railway: The Story of its Preservation (Amberley)

Three Mid-Norfolk Railway volunteers have put together this story of their railway’s preservation from its closure by British Rail in 1969 to the present day.

This railway has a remarkable history, having almost been lost for good with the end of freight traffic in 1989. The book describes how rival organisations fought for control of the line until its future was eventually secured with the formation of the Mid-Norfolk Railway Trust in 1995. Since that date the railway has reopened in stages and gone from strength to strength as a popular heritage line, featuring a variety of Modernisation Plan era and newer rolling stock.

Unlike many other preserved railways, the MNR has been dominated by diesel traction but has one resident steam loco and has hosted a number of visiting steam and diesel locos over the years. At the back of the book there is an appendix listing all visiting locos from 1993 to 2025. Illustrated throughout with around 100 colour and black & white photographs. 96 pages.
