This book looks at many of the various classes of diesel locomotives that could be found working in Scotland in the years before the introduction and complete re-numbering of the BR Locomotive fleet in which was largely completed during 1974. There are some DMU and shunters featured in this volume but it is  the locomotives that make up the majority of the book.

There has been much variety in the main line locomotive fleet north of the Border and this book illustrates many of the different classes of locomotives that have worked in Scotland in the post-steam era. Some classes were short lived, such as the Claytons, while others like the Class 47 can still be seen at work in Scotland on charter trains today.

During this period, most photographs had their cameras focussed on the final steam locomotives, but this book contains photographs from Norman Turnbull, who photographed the new diesel locomotives during the 1960s and 1970s. Photographs in this book cover many types of locomotives which can only be found in preservation today, as well as locations which have been removed from the railway map. Photography is of a high standard and each photograph is accompanied by an informative caption. Hardback. 80 pages.
