Railway photographer Colin Howat has put together this fascinating collection of his photos of Class 47 locomotives across Scotland. Most of the images date from the 1980s and 1990s, with a few from the early days of the class in the 1960s. There are also a small number of examples of the remaining members of the class taken in the last 20 years, mainly on charter trains.

The book starts with a short history of the class and the author’s memories of Class 47s in the 1970s and 1980s. The photographs are arranged in two per page format, with informative captions including the two-letter depot code for each loco illustrated. There is a good mix of passenger, freight, parcels and charter trains, mostly taken during the BR blue era but some other liveries such as InterCity, ScotRail and West Coast Railway Company are also featured. 96 pages.
