Bristol Bath Road was first opened as a workshop and locomotive shed by the Bristol & Exeter Railway in 1852, later becoming a major steam shed for the Great Western Railway and then a diesel locomotive depot for British Rail’s Western Region, continuing to function as such until its closure in 1995.

Over the years it was the base for all manner of railway workers, including drivers, guards, foremen, fitters, cleaners and office staff. Lynne Davies, the daughter of a train driver, former Area Operations Manager Roy Kethro and recently deceased railway chaplain Rev’d David Hardy have put together this collection of over 100 stories of former members of staff associated with Bath Road from both the steam and diesel eras.

These accounts tell the life stories of each person and their careers and experiences both from the operational side of the railway and the human aspect. The book is well illustrated with photos of the people described and the various types of steam and diesel loco that were based at Bath Road. Well illustrated with around 200 colour and black & white photographs. Hardback. 240 pages.
