Hector Maxwell has put together this collection of black & white photographs by the late Tim Farebrother, who made a career in photography for a time before becoming a teacher.

The images mostly date from the late 1950s and early 1960s, with locations covered including the Thames Valley commuter belt, Reading, Swindon Works and the Worcester and Malvern areas, Mr Farebrother’s parents having been house parents at Malvern College for a number of years before moving to East Sussex.

The period covered by this book saw the transition from steam to diesel traction across much of the country, and this is reflected by the variety of traction featured, including ex-Great Western Railway railcars, Type 2 (later Class 22) diesel-hydraulic locos, first generation DMUs, and a Blue Pullman trainset as well as numerous steam locomotives. Hardback. 80 pages.
