THIS BOOK IS NOW OUT OF PRINT, THEREFORE UNAVAILABLE TO ORDER

This is a comprehensive history of signalling on the London & South Western Railway both during and after the LSWR era.

There are chapters on early signalling to 1870, block working and interlocking between 1870 and 1900, and developments from 1900 until the Grouping in 1923 and beyond, with some remnants of legacy L&SWR era systems having remained in use well into the British Rail and post-privatisation eras.

These are followed by chapters on signal box designs and interiors, signalling equipment, diagrams of signalling at various locations across the former L&SWR network, and junctions with other railway companies and joint lines. At the back there is a full list of L&SWR signal boxes with their opening and closing dates.

Superbly illustrated throughout with archive black & white photographs and diagrams. Hardback. 384 pages.
