This book traces the history of Carlisle's Kingmoor steam motive power depot, from its origins in Carlisle's original West Walls depot and the decision to build a replacement at Etterby, through to the end of steam operation in the 1960s.

The story of the depot is divided into chapters, each covering a period in history:

  • The Caledonian Railway
  • The Great War
  • The 1923 Grouping
  • The Second World War
  • The Post-War Period

The history of the shed is covered in each chapter, as are changes in the locomotive fleet, from Caledonian Railway locomotives through to the final BR Standard locomotives to use the shed in the 1960s.

Well-illustrated throughout with black & white photographs. 56 pages.
