The four East Coast counties of Essex, Suffolk, Norfolk and Lincolnshire were served by the Eastern region of British Railways.

Principal among the 30 or so coastal resorts covered in this volume are the tourist hot spots of Southend-on-Sea, Lowestoft, Great Yarmouth, Skegness and Cleethorpes. All the seaside resorts in the area that were formerly rail-served but have since lost their rail links, such as Aldeburgh, Hunstanton and Mablethorpe, are also featured. Using the vast archive of the Transport Treasury, images of trains serving these resorts have been combined with period advertisements extolling the virtues of each destination.

A special feature looks at some of the named trains that served the resorts within the area covered, such as The Broadsman and The Norfolkman serving Cromer and Sheringham, The Easterling serving Lowestoft and Great Yarmouth, and The Essex Coast Express serving Clacton-on-Sea. Also included in this feature is the Holiday Camps Express which served a number of holiday camps on the Norfolk coast, and the Butlins specials that catered for holidaymakers bound for the Butlins holiday camps.

An introduction to each coastal resort is included and each photograph is accompanied by an extensive caption. 112 pages.
