Condor Ferries was established in 1964 by Channel Islands businessmen Peter Dorey and Jack Norman. Some 30 years later they set up the first high-speed car ferry service to the Channel Islands from Weymouth using Condor 10. In 2008, the Macquarie European Infrastructure Fund II acquired the Condor Group, and in 2024 Brittany Ferries became the majority shareholder. A year later the same company took over Condor’s Guernsey operations and DFDS its Jersey operations, ending 61 years of the Condor Ferries brand.

This book tells the complex history of Condor and its operations between the UK, the Channel Islands and France over the six decades of the company’s existence. It describes the vessels used and how the company and its services evolved over the years. Notable developments covered include the various parent company takeovers and the 1995 accident in which “Saint-Malo” struck the La Frouquie rock.

The book ends by describing the current situation, with the remaining Channel Islands ferry services being a shadow of their former glory. The photos are mostly arranged one per page or double page spread, in large format. Well-illustrated throughout with around 100 photographs, mostly colour. 112 pages.
