France has always been a popular destination for British railway enthusiasts to visit the country’s many workshops, depots and yards as well as to travel on loco-hauled trains. However, like many countries across Europe, many depots and yards have closed thanks to the demise of wagonload traffic and introduction of TGVs and bi-mode multiple units that have superseded loco haulage across much of the rail network.
This book contains a fascinating collection of photos taken at depots and yards throughout France between the late 1980s and 2015. These feature a variety of diesel and electric locos stabled, undergoing maintenance or awaiting disposal.
At the start of the book there is a diagrammatic map showing the locations of France’s major workshops, depots and marshalling yards. Most of the pages have two photos per page. Approximately 200 colour photos. 96 pages.
