In 1896 a private railway company was formed to create a railway link across the Harz mountains with a narrow gauge railway. In 1899, the Harzquerbahn was opened, with a line to the summit of the Brocken mountain being added later.

Today, the narrow gauge lines are among Germany's most popular and steam trains still operate.

This book contains a series of over 170 recent colour and archive historical photographs of trains operating on both the Harzquerbahn and Brockenbahn. The history of the lines are also covered, however the purpose of this book is to illustrate the railway and the landscape using high-quality photographs.

German text. Hardback. 144 pages.
