An illustrated review of branch line junctions in the final years of Deutsche Reichsbahn operation between 1981 and 1993. In its final years, the DR had more than a dozen busy branch line junction stations, where the hustle and bustle of interchange between main line and branch line services guaranteed an interesting and varied contrast between new and old railway technology.

Many of these stations saw large volumes of traffic, both passenger and freight. Their often tranquil settings could see the latest electric traction alongside the last remaining steam locomotives, or more modern railbuses. Many of the stations still boasted adjacent freight yards in this period.

Bahn Extra 6/2021: Nebenbahnknoten der DR 1981-93 also includes a collection of short articles looking at specific related subject areas, including:

  • DB Class 65 steam locomotives used for S-Bahn journeys.
  • Local services in and around Braunschweig
  • Class 64 at the Schwerin freight yard
  • And many other topics

Includes over 150 illustrations, mainly in colour, plus several maps, track layout diagrams, timetable extracts and other reproductions. German text. 114 pages.

Special Note: This edition of Bahn Extra comes with a free DVD, running time 55 minutes, concerning the DB Class 65 steam locomotives. German commentary.
