The Südbahngesellschaft existed as a company from 1859 until the 1960s. It operated its own vehicles on its extensive route network until 1923. This network extended as far as Trieste and other parts of northern Italy during its heyday.

Following the First World War, many of the company's assets were transferred back to Italian ownership, meaning Austrian locomotives became part of Italian railway companies fleets.

In this book, with the help of Italian railway historians, authors Johann Blieberger and Josef Pospichal present a comprehensive locomotive by locomotive history of the locomotives once owned by Südbahngesellschaft.

Each locomotive type is presented, with archive photographs or sketches, technical data and full fleet lists included for each locomotive class. German text. Hardback. 512 pages.
