The Prussian T 3 (Class 89.70) embodies the “good old days” of railways like no other locomotive. The first examples were built as early as 1882, and over 1300 were delivered to the Königlich Preussische Staateisenbahnen (Royal Prussian State Railways) and to other state, private, and works railways in Germany and abroad.
The robust and durable T 3s proved their worth for many decades in passenger and freight service on branch lines, as shunting locos, and on works railways, and remained in service in East and West Germany until 1968. Their immense popularity ensured that numerous T 3s were preserved, some of which still operate today.
This new edition of this long-out-of-print book tells the story of their introduction and operations throughout their working lives, including full fleet lists for each of the depots where they were allocated. At the back there is a chapter on the preserved Class 89.70s. This chapter has colour illustrations, with most of the rest of the photographs being black & white.
