Peter J Green has compiled this collection of his photographs of the railways of Devon and Cornwall mostly taken between the mid-1970s and the early 1990s.
The author travelled to Devon many times over the years, capturing the Class 52 diesel-hydraulic Westerns in their last few years of service as they gave way to Class 50 diesel-electrics. He first visited Cornwall in 1984, spending ten days attempting to record the entire county’s rail network on camera. Highlights of this trip included Class 37s on china clay trains and Class 45s, 47s and 50s on the main line.
HSTs and DMUs of both the first and the second generation also feature prominently in the collection, and there are short sections on GWR 150th anniversary steam specials in 1985 and preserved railways such as the Dart Valley, the Torbay Steam Railway and the Seaton Tramway. Contains over 200 black & white photographs. Hardback. 206 pages.
