In this book, Oxford resident and author Colin Judge traces the company history, as well as the railway history of the Oxford Gas Light & Coke Company.

Of the 67 gas works acquired by the Southern Gas Board in 1949, it had the longest history. In this book, the history of the company is described in detail, with particular emphasis being places on the gas works railway and locomotive fleet between 1818 and 1960.

Chapters cover the development of the works, the introduction of locomotives, the wartime years and the absorbtion into the Southern Gas Board. All chapters are well illustrated throughout with over 80 archive black & white photographs and maps. Hardback. 144 pages.
