A much enlarged second edition of this book telling the history of the Kendal and Windermere Railway, published to coincide with the 175th anniversary of the completion of the line from Oxenholme to Windermere.

This new edition contains a new introductory chapter: “The world the Railway changed”, and two other new chapters dealing with the succession of proposals to extend the railway beyond its present terminus at Windermere, and railway connections with Croppers paper mills in the Burneside area.

The book is richly illustrated using photos from the Cumbrian Railways Association and other archives. The photographs show many of the different types of traction and the variety of liveries that have been seen over the years.

The Kendal & Windermere Railway also includes several maps and other reproductions, plus specially drawn detailed signalling diagrams of the Windermere branch in the years before it was reduced to a single track. 104 pages.
