This book takes us on a nostalgic tour of the North of England, from Crewe and Doncaster as far as the Scottish border. It features a fascinating collection of colour and black & white photographs mainly taken between 1950 and 1970.
The bulk of the photographs are of steam traction, but diesel and electric locos and units also feature along with first generation trams in Sheffield, an LNER paddle steamer used on the Hull to New Holland service before the opening of the Humber Bridge, and the Corkickle Brake, a cable-worked incline on the Cumbrian Coast. A visit to the Isle of Man and its steam and electric railways is also included. There is a good mix of main line and branch line scenes including many long since closed routes both before and after closure.
The photographs are mostly arranged in one or two per page format with detailed captions accompanying each image. Many of them are previously unpublished. 128 pages.
