Architecture historian Dr David Lawrence has put together this detailed review of station architecture and features from the early days of railway traffic through to the present day. It looks at platform and building design along with other features such as awnings and station signs.
The book is divided into chapters covering platforms, awnings and pavilions, station refreshment outlets, other features such as signage, colour schemes and lighting, and railway heritage and conservation. This last chapter looks at how a number of redundant railway buildings across the country have been restored in recent years and given a new lease of life whether for railway-related or other purposes.
This book has been published to coincide with the Railway 200 celebrations. Includes over 300 colour and black & white photographs. Hardback. 240 pages.
