A high quality album illustrating the tramways of Vienna in colour between 1956 and 1978. Home to one of the world’s largest tramway systems, Vienna has always had a rich variety of cars, routes, depots, work equipment, streetscapes and backdrops, here the authors have gathered together an outstanding collection of colour images, the earliest dating from the mid-1950s.
The selected images represent each of the various types of motor car operating after World War II, in as wide a range of locations as possible, sometimes with and sometimes without trailers. There are also selected views of the Stadtbahn and Wien-Baden Lokalbahn as well as various works cars. To complete the overall picture a few period views of buses and trolleybuses have been included. The coverage ends in 1978 when the last of the classic M-type motor cars was withdrawn.
The book has been produced in landscape format to best illustrate the colour material. The photos are presented in one or two-per-page format and are accompanied by informative captions. Text is in English and German. Hardback. 144 pages. Published 2020.
