This book is dedicated to the last operating tram system in South Asia, that of the Indian city of Kolkata. It covers the 152-year history of Kolkata’s tram system as well as the development of the network and descriptions of the lines in operation since 1998. Well over 200 photographs and maps illustrate the text. The book is complemented by a description of the operating facilities and the development of the rolling stock.
The book contains the history of the tram in Kolkata, detailed descriptions of the lines including track maps, descriptions of the operating facilities, the development of the routes and the rolling stock (as far as researchable). With the help of many detailed plans, the book illustrates the changes in the route network for readers who are not familiar with the area.
