The second volume of Ted Hancock's comprehensive history of the Hope Valley Line from Dore Junction, just south of Sheffield, to Chinley. The line passes through the scenic Peak District and through two lengthy tunnels, Totley and Cowburn.
This volume examines the stations along the route and other infrastructure such as bridges, tunnels, cuttings and embankments. Branches from the line, such as that to Hope Cement Works and railways associated with the construction of the Derwent Valley reservoir dams are also included.
A brief history of the Hope Valley line between the Grouping of the railways and the present day is also included, as this was to be the subject of the third volume were it to have been published.
Superbly illustrated throughout with archive black & white photographs dating back to the 19th century and maps and track diagrams. Hardback. 360 pages.
