In this book, Adrian Booth takes a look at the industrial railways that operated within Sheffield’s four sewage works sites at Blackburn Meadows, Coisley Hill, Wharncliffe Side and Woodhouse Mill.

For each of these sites, the book describes the operations of their internal railway systems and their locomotive and wagon fleets from opening until the cessation of rail traffic. Wharncliffe Side sewage works had a monorail system whilst the other three sites had a conventional standard or narrow gauge railway. There are also chapters on the main line freight trains that took sewage waste from Blackburn Meadows to the tips at Kilnhurst and Thrybergh.

The book is well illustrated with photographs and maps and contains much information obtained through extensive research in Yorkshire Water’s private archives. Contains around 10 colour and 74 black & white photos. 84 pages.
