As part of their Great Railway Eras series, Middleton Press have published Preston To The Fylde Coast: Steam * Diesel * Electric: featuring Blackpool And Fleetwood by author, Tom Heavyside

The railways laid across the Fylde from the mid-19th century played an important role in the development of the peninsula, particularly the coastal towns, which to this day continue to attract tourists from far and wide. Steam, diesel and electric traction all feature in this book, which highlights the radical changes to the railway system since the early 1960s. The album also details some of the early preservation schemes.

PLEASE NOTE: This is the second book Middleton Press have produced featuring the railways west of Preston, the first being 'Preston to Blackpool including Fleetwood', published in 2018 as part of the Northern Lines series. The first book concentrated mainly on the changing scene up until 1990, since which time the railways across the Fylde have undergone some radical changes, both in regards of the motive power and the infrastructure. This new volume details the last years of steam workings in the 1960s, the period when diesel power monopolised the services, along with the current scene following electrification of the line to Blackpool North in 2018. It also covers a few private industrial railway sites, and takes a look at some early railway preservation schemes.

This book includes 20 large scale maps, 6 track layouts and numerous other details of local history. Each photograph is accompanied by a detailed caption.

120 black & white and two colour photographs. Hardback. 96 pages.
