An extensively illustrated history of the first and longest narrow-gauge railway in Saxony. The 41 km line from Wilkau-Haßlau to Carlsfeld broke new ground for narrow gauge operations in Saxony and paved the way for many of the other narrow gauge heritage operations that still survive today.

This book describes the planning, construction, opening and operation of the line, and also looks in detail at the steam locomotives used on the line. Connections to the standard gauge network are also covered.

Wilkau-Haßlau–Carlsfeld describes the many plans put forward over the years to re-gauge the line to standard gauge, none of which came to fruition, and discusses the circumstances that eventually led to closure of the line. The heritage operation at Schonheide, which has been providing regular museum steam service since 1994 is also examined.

Comprehensively illustrated with numerous rare photographic treasures, maps, diagrams and track plans. 224 pages Hardback. German text.
