An illustrated survey in "bookazine" style of the "Warship" diesel hydraulic locomotives built at Swindon works for the Western Region of British Railways.

The first section of the book examines the conception, design and construction of the locomotives in the 1950s, and Is illustrated by a good selection of early black & white photographs. The remainder of the volume looks at each member of the class in turn and illustrates every locomotive throughout their subsequent working lives through to the 1970s, in colour.

The Swindon Warships made quite an impression when they burst upon a steam-dominated railway in 1958. Powerful, fast and above all lightweight, this was the Type 4 that the Western Region had wanted and fought so hard to get. Their clean design and stylish livery gave rise to the realisation that a new age truly was dawning.

Diesel Dawn 2: The Swindon Warships contains comprehensive text, informative captions and interesting anecdotes. Well illustrated. 86 pages.
