The Class 60 was the last truly British-built diesel locomotive design and the last to be orderd in significant numbers by British Rail before privatisation in the 1990s. 100 examples were built with all examples later passing into the ownership of English, Welsh & Scottish Railways.

Class 60s is an illustrated review of the working lives of the Class 60 diesel locomotive fleet. It contains a collection of colour images showing examples of the class at work, hauling a variety of different freight flows throughout their operational lives. A wide range of liveries can be seen, from the original BR grey, to the brighter colours used in the era of privatisation and special colour schemes applied to certain celebrity locomotives.

Towards the end of the 2000s, almost all the locos were put into store, but in the early 2010s a small fleet of Class 60s were thoroughly rebuilt so they could haul DB Schenker’s heaviest trains, and eventually 35 were refurbished for various other operators. This volume looks at the Class 60s from their early days in the 1990s through to the beginning of the 2020s.

Over 190 photographs are accompanied be explanatory captions with further information about the locomotives. Most of the photographs are presented in two or three-per-page format. 96 pages.
