British Steam in Colour 1957-1975: The Colour Slide Collection of Norman Harrop (SLP)

£25.00
Back Order

A superb collection of colour photographs taken from the slide collection of Norman Harrop, a photographer who adopted colour photography in 1957 and sought out pre-Grouping locomotives, many of which could still be found operating on Britain's railways at the time.

He continued photographing steam trains throughout the 1960s as their use was in steep decline, and also into the early days of railway preservation.

In this book, Graham Nicholas has selected 200 photographs from the collection to illustrate the years between 1957 and 1975. Photographs are taken from a wide range of locations around Britain during this period and split into chapters, each covering a different period:

  • 1957-1960: Steam's Indian Summer
  • Pre-Grouping Gems
  • 1961-1964: The Winds of Change
  • Norman on his Travels
  • 1965-1968: Run Into the Ground
  • 1969-1975: Rebirth - Bahamas, Dinting and the Early Preservation Years

A short introduction to the photographer is included and each photograph is is accompanied by an informative caption. Hardback. 136 pages.
