Back Order

A new and revised edition of Hugh Longworth's definitive allocation record of British Railways steam locomotives, covering the period from the formation of British Railways in 1948 through to the withdrawal of the last steam locomotives in 1968.

For the first time, colour printing has been used to highlight which British Railways region each depot belonged to, helping to illustrate when a locomotive switched between regions.

For each locomotive, allocation details are provided showing which depot the locomotive was allocated to and when it moved between depots. Both shed codes and depot names are shown. Each allocation history starts on 1 January 1948 and months of withdrawal are shown for each locomotive. A small diagram is included for each locomotive type.

Further sections list steam shed codes used throughout the British Railways period and details about code changes and shed closures.

BR Steam Locomotives: Complete Allocations History 1948-1968 provides a locomotive-by-locomotive allocation record during the period from 1948 to 1968. Illustrated with a number of black & white photographs. Hardback. 400 pages.
