In this book, author Malcolm Clegg presents a selection of photographs of LMS and LNER steam locomotives taken by photographer Peter Cookson in the years between the formation of British Railways and the end of steam on Britain's railways.
An introduction to the two pre-BR companies is followed by around 200 high-quality black & white photographs, covering a wide variety of locomotive types at work. The final section of the book provides some history about each of the locomotive classes featured in the photographs.
Each photograph is accompanied by a detailed and informative caption, providing some background information about the locomotive and the train being operated. Hardback. 168 pages.
