Southampton & District Transport Heritage Trust member David J Hutchings has put together this album of black & white and colour photos of Southampton City Transport buses.
The first few photos are from the 1930s and also include a few images of the city’s trams, which were withdrawn in 1949.
The post-war scenes are dominated by Guy Arab single and double deckers in the 1950s, AEC Regents and Park Royal bodies Leyland PD2s in the 1960s, and Alexander and East Lancs bodied Leyland Atlanteans in the 1970s and 1980s. Vehicles featured in the post-deregulation Southampton CityBus era include Leyland Lynxes, Dennis Darts, and ex-London Transport Routemasters. The last chapter features vintage buses in preservation.
