An illustrated review of the early years of the Deutsche Bundesbahn as the state railway of West Germany. Deutsche Bundesbahn was formed in 1949 and inherited a railway network recovering from extensive damage during World War 2.

This magazine publication contains articles looking at the years between 1949 and 1956, examining how the railway tried to modernise while also avoiding operating at a massive loss. Steam motive power was to continue throughout this period, but diesel and electric power also became more a more common sight.
