The Class 41 locos were in regular service on German railways for almost five decades, making them one of the longest-serving loco classes.

In two volumes dedicated to this well-known, popular, and versatile class, the author provides a thorough overview and comprehensive information on its development and construction history, its operations in the various railway divisions, and the surviving examples. Details of their operations and home depots, begun in the first volume, are concluded in this second volume, which covers the railway divisions of Hanover, Kassel, Cologne, Magdeburg, Mainz, Munich, Münster (Westphalia), Nuremberg, Osten, Posen, Regensburg, Schwerin, Stettin, Stuttgart, and Wuppertal.

Volume 2 also covers the members of the class in service for the Soviet Military Administration in Germany (SMAD) after World War II, their use as stationary heating locos, the locos that remained abroad, and accidents. The volume provides detailed descriptions of the surviving locos, whether operational or only as static exhibits. Extensive statistics on the locations of the locos, as well as boiler and tender inventories, are also included.
