This album of colour photos of the rail network in Berlin in the 1980s depicts the motive power scene in the last decade of separation between East and West Germany (and East and West Berlin).
It is divided into chapters covering long-distance, local passenger, freight and military traffic, private and works railways, special trains, and the S-Bahn network. A variety of diesel and electric loco-hauled trains and units are featured in both East and West Berlin along with a few steam-hauled freight and charter trains.
Each chapter starts with a few pages of text outlining the situation with the relevant type of service in the 1980s, followed by several photos with detailed captions. Some photos from the early 1990s have also been included.
